Why You Should Just Give Up
Hello, this is Amanda Alexander of amandaalexander.com and coachingmums.com.
Do you know what? Sometimes it’s ok to give up.
Western society is really big on us following through on things, and God knows I am one of the worst people for not giving up on something; for being doggedly determined. It’s something that I like to think is one of my finer qualities: being determined, not giving up, and keeping on at it.
You mustn’t give up no matter what!
I absolutely agree with that – to a point. Sometimes, sometimes, it’s good to give up.
Sometimes, if you’re flogging a dead horse.
Sometimes you’ve got a project and it’s just not going right. You keep on doing it and you’re blinkered like this, you don’t see anything else. Lift your head up and look around you. What else might there be? Is it the time to continue with this project?
I’ve had an experience like that recently with something I was launching. I’d put a lot of work in it, a lot of effort, and it seemed uphill all the way. The response I got to it was underwhelming, absolutely underwhelming. Reader – I am giving up on that project. I am giving myself permission to give up.
Guess what happened as soon as I decided to give up? As soon as I made an informed decision to give up – not to give up on everything and just say, “Hell, I’m beaten. I’m failed, I’m not doing anything else,” but to give up, and put my efforts elsewhere, to listen to my intuition and do what was working well – where’s the flow going?
Are we going in flow, or are we going against the tide here? If you’re going against the tide with something, just stop and think. Do I need to give this thing up and concentrate on something else?
What’s the message that’s going on here that you might not be listening to?
So, if you’ve got something and you feel as if it’s been just hard work and an uphill struggle, what else might be going on around you?
First of all, start listening to the messages. Are there other opportunities that you’re missing out on because of this particular project?
I dare you to give something up today.
Let me know how you get on, and if you like my ramblings, go and visit me, AmandaAlexander.com and CoachingMums.com. At Coaching Mums, if you are a mum, particularly a working mum, you can sign up to my Friday Fives, which are, as they sound a Friday email. You might like the stuff in there, and then again, you might not – but I dare you to give something up today.
Thanks for watching, bye bye.
